Condoleezza Rice
This is Condoleezza Rice. Mrs. Rice was born November 14, 1954. She was the first African American female Secretary of State. She served under President George W. Bush. Mrs. Rice was also President Bush's National Security Advisor. She was the first female to hold that position.
Thurgood Marshall
This is Thurgood Marshall. He was born July 2, 1908. Mr. Marshall served as the first African American Supreme Court Justice. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land! Justice Marshall served on the court for 24 years.
Shirley Chisholm
This is Shirley Chisholm. Ms. Chisholm was born November 30, 1924. In 1968 she became the first African American woman elected to congress. She represented the state of New York. In 1972 Ms. Chisholm became the first female democratic candidate for President of the United States. She was also the first African American to run for president.
General Colin Powell
This is General Colin Powell. He was born April 5, 1937. Mr. Powell was the first African American to hold the position of U.S. Secretary of State. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001. General Powell was also the first and only African American to serve on the Joint Chief of Staff. He is a four star general.
